My last came out of a Chevy AstroVan, but they have a lot of other Chevy trucks that you can make fit. Because of the curve at the front of our vans,, you will have to do some mods. Go to Ebay and type in:
"overhead console + chevy" you can just type "overhead console" and see 100s of them.

WOW!!!!!!!!! Great craftsmanship!! Very much what i was going for, but way more finished than i had ever hoped to achieve. So to attach it, you are doing sheet metal screws? Where are the points that you are screwing into the van? I saw two around the rearview mirror, where else? I was thinking of doing a hanging sort of thing that just clipped over the tops of the rails up there. Doesnt seems as stable, obviously as permanant screws, but i shure hate putting more holes in the van.
thanks for the guidance in your vanAGE post. Those kind of step by step pictorials are exactly why i love the internet!
thanks again

ps thanks for making me aware of the other forum as well!

I used # 8, 3 inch long sheet metal screws at 6 locations, 3 per side.
I had used a 3/4 x 3 inch peice across the front so there would little
to no chance of any drooping after the radio and speakers were installed.
You know that, the upper rail is doubled where I drilled the holes with an
1/8 inch bit and the # 8's went it hard so I know there will be no chance
of them lossening up. As you can see, I added smaller peices of 3/4
where the screws were to go thru, I didn't think the 1/4 luann would be
strong enough. I drilled the holes at an approx. 25 or 30 degree angle,
there is an empty space up at the top and wanted be sure I didn't miss
the rail. Took a Dremel with a 1/4 sanding drum on it and countersunk
the holes so the screws were low enough to be able to carpet over them
and have them not show. When it was installed before the carpet, I grabbed
the radio hole and pulled down, and I could barely move it. Definetly solid !
One last thing that I have to do is put a small t shaped cut where the screws
are so I can get at the screws, once the console is screwed into place, the
small T slices will be folded back flat and if you weren't looking for them or
didn't know they were there, you'll never see them

Duane, any chance that you could make and outline drawing of the console (front and bottom) on butcher's paper before you install it. Getting the right angles can be a total pain. I'm sure others will also be interested. Be glad to pay you for a copy. Love the visor recesses.

Yep, I can do that. Might be a few weeks as I have a ton of stuff to do, and with work, there seems to less and less time to do some of it.
Glad you liked the recesses, with the console in place on top
of the visors, it seemed to tilt upwards in the front, so that's when
the decision to add some form of a recess for the visors was made.
Installed a new ( used ) fusebox last night. Turns out that a 73 chevy
pickup has an identical fusebox. I had grabbed one off a junker
thinking I could somehow draft it into the 70 but never compared the
2, but when I actually compared the 2 a few days ago, they were the
same, except for one very, very minor discrepancy. Even color
coded all the same. My fusebox had been in poor shape for a while
and had more then one jury rigged repair, so it's nice to have it finally
replaced and looking fresh and no different from the original.
