I'm giving up on the No Door search because I'm impatient..

I'm looking for a '64 Panel with a straight body (especially the roof) and no rust. Ideally I want one with no motor, transmission or glass. The doors don't even have to be nice. All I'm looking for is a clean roller. As a matter of fact, if you have one fully equipped you can strip the drive train.

Give me a call if you have one, seen one or know someone who does (510) 396-3689. Please email pictures to romanmacias64@yahoo.com

That's not even the same animal in my book. No 2nd Gens ever...ever! Close by the no door and shell aspect, but I would not own a 2nd Gen.

Thanks for thinking of me though...

If I was in the market for a van, I'd buy greg's van in a minute!!! This van has a well known history here on VCVC. Its a really sweet '64 that is very nicely done. Greg has put a ton of work into this van.

honestly, I'm not sure what the attraction is to a no-door except for the fact that they are a rare novelty? To me, it seems like it would be very inconvenient to not have any side doors? I can't imagine having my van with no side doors! I use them all the time!! I think you'll like having the doors in the side better.

I'm not into all that extra stuff he did to that van. I'm more into stripped down and sleek lines.

I'd end up gutting it inside and selling the motor and tranny anyway...

I definitely see the attraction of the "no door" option, but I'm with you, KK. I can't imagine having to go through the back doors for EVERYTHING. I use my side doors way more than the rear.

Not trying to speak for Roman, but I know his tastes a bit, and I think he likes the streamlined, clean, no frills box. It's another level from even a no side window setup. A clean, pristine pallet. I get it, but it would be a pain in the tail to work out of. I almost pulled the trigger on a totally window free van (other than main cabin doors) and it was a killer look. There weren't even rear windows. No rear windows really brings out the lines of the van but would be scary to drive. I think the no door thing is just another level and reason why most of us would rather have a window-less side door panel van than one with a "disruption" in the lines. My opinion..

Thanks brova Lee!

I'm guessing those folks who do not see the appeal of a No Door are seeing the van being used for a very conventional purpose. That's not me and that's not the direction my project will end up.

I don't need side doors to drive, load stuff, see out of or to work on the van. I need clean lines and very little complexity.

Peace,
Roman

Roman if you want help finding a van, you might want to try a less aggressive approach. About 90% of Early Chevy vans available in this country, come through this site. I you want a 1st gen, that is fine, but to say "I wouldn't own a 2nd gen" seems a bit offensive or a put down to those who do own a second gen. Try some manners, you might be surprised.

Hey Greg, the guy just doesn't want a 2nd gen... and also he doesn't want anything radically customized... I don't think Roman is being rude, its just not what he's looking for and this is HIS thread in the wanted section, talking about what he is specifically looking for so what's the big deal? No need to come down on the guy for simply wanting to find exactly what he is looking for. The title of the thread is '64 chevy panel' and that is what he's looking for. I don't see how anything he posted could be taken as offensive, so cut a dude some slack, eh?

Not everybody has the same tastes and that is OK!!!

For the longest time I thought a no door was the way to go. I too gave up because they are hard to find. I have come to a conclusion. I will be ordering two gull wing doors for my project. No door handles, no hinges and that nice clean look of a no door (except two lines at the edges of the doors). It's a great compromise in my books AND I sill have doors to access the van!

A no door, huh. I want an 8 door. Or better yet, a gullwing on both the driver and passenger sides and seal up the back doors.

I know where Roman is comming from I built a no side door my self and yes removed the windowed rear doors. One of the first tings i did to it
I just love the clean lines of nothing but steel.......
As far as safty goes.Vans are equiped with MIRRORS learn to use them..
I have been driving window less vans for years and have yet to back over or hit anything.....

Van number 2 was a no door, loved that slick side ....some folks go to alotta trouble to shave emblems/door handles/mirrors etc. to achieve the look......and i'm oneof them. But it's a pia working on them, maybe an easily removeable pass seat would ease the way? {for engine work anyway}...On this van i figgered i'd have more than my share of engine/transmission tweekin' to do, and they ain't givin' away no-doors so i went w/the side cargo doors....besides, it gives me a chance to try a electric/hydralic door opener i've been wanting to build.
But they ain't makin' these things any more which means if your gonna score one it's either build your own van factory or present yourself as a person thats easy to do biz with and buy one from a previous owner.....or possibly just throw a dumpster fulla money at the problem..One way to "groom" yourself as a person who's easy to do biz with is to imagine yourself trapped in a room with your twin....how long b4 you'd feel like killing him? It's the flys/sugar thing...your not gonna attract flys by tellin' people to go XXXX themselves...unless ofcourse you do have a dumpster fulla money.

AMEN Wookee!

Hey Fustkarr, I don't going around telling people to go "F" themselves out of the blue. If it's my business and you need to be told, I'll be the first in line.

As far as "grooming myself as a person" I'm fine just just the way I am, but I appreciate your concern for my upbringing. If you start this thread or the No Door wanted thread at the beginning you'll see exactly how I present myself. I am very clear and concise with what I'm asking for. If that is interpreted as being someone that is hard to do business with, then don't do business with me. As a matter of fact, don't bother wasting your time telling me how to conduct myself or offer advice. My professionalism is like a light switch, it can be turned on and off. There is no customer service department here.

I cannot understand how a guy looking for a van can be so complicated and such a major issue. The bottom line is I'm looking for another van and I have cash. It's not a dumpster it's more like a chest full. If you have what I'm asking, for or know someone who does, then let's link up.

There is no need for debutant lessons, life lessons, people getting kicked off, or pissed off and definitely no room for grown people to get their feelers hurt.

There sure does seem to be a lot of sensitive folks around here...

Sincerely,
Roman

Hey Roman,
It's not complicated...all you need is cash. Just find yourself a auto broker and say "I've gotta chest fulla money". I won't offer my advice again, so you needn't bother concerning yourself.....BTW, i do know a guy in Beaverton who has a flatglass/slickside van apart in his parents garage...i talked to him last time i was up in the area and he's still hoping to assemble and drive....eventually.. I think he'd sell, given the right incentive..i passed because my garage is jammed to the hilt rt. now, another project would end up in the p-lot and incur the wrath of the property manager...I won't pass your name along either, i've told him about the site {VCVC} so maybe you'll get a shot at it in the future..Why won't i pass your name along: because after you "poison the well" i'll have to deal w/the fallout...I can hear it now " That guy was an XXXXXXX, what other kinda XXXXXXX friends have you got?"..You see Roman, people with real money don't talk about how much money they have...nor do they hang out in websites populated with XXXXXXX like me..I don't really care if you get your van, but if ya do i hope ya finish it well..always nice to see a job well done. But if ya show up at my shop you can be assurred that i will be busy...forever..You see after 18 years in biz i've learned to recogonize people who are more trouble than their worth...no mater how much money you charge them, it's not worth it...they always leave you swearing you'll never "do that again". ..It's your money, spend it as you wish, it's your van, modify as you wish...There are a number of ways to accomplish this, you can go in with a chest fulla money, or show up w/a six pack and BS for awhile..One way costs Xbucks, the other cost 5Xbucks. I don't really care how you conduct your life, it's your life not mine . I'm not writing this to offer any REDUNDANT lessons ,life lessons.i don't care if you get kicked off...or continue to post for that matter, and my feelings are intact/unaffected...frankly, i don't care weither you live or die, i wish you no ill will but if you dropped dead tomorrow i would still go into my machine shop and work on my van, unaffected...a lack of feeling i suspect the two of us share for each other...I wanted to get a "feel' for you b4 i turned you on to the van in Oregon...which i won't be doing now, only because i don't wanna deal w/the fallout...Naaa, if you really want a nodoor , find a auto broker or wait for the guy in Beaverton...i havn't communicated w/him and frankly don't know what progress/lack of he's making and i'll probably pass on it when he's had enough..Good luck on your search.

This thread got off to a bumpy start and perhaps my input aided in its eventual misguidance. How about we think about getting back to normal here?

Someone new has come to the VCVC, looking for help in finding a van. I think showing support is far better an approach than showing the door.

I feel so second rate, because I just bought a van with windows. I'll never measure up now.

Actually on the Van Food Chain Chart of America, a 1st Gen window van is only on notch down! You're not quite an herbivore, I guess it's equivalent to an omnivore!

By the way, I bought a '64 Panel yesterday! It's a nice driver and will suit my project perfectly when the time comes.

Congrats, Roman! Looking forward to pictures (initial and progress)....that is, unless it arrives without need for any further work or modification :-)

There is no such thing to me. I have such unique taste, EVERYTHING I buy requires modification.

It sure does seem to need nothing to drive around everyday though...we'll see when it gets home.

I'm not really big on posting progress pics with my projects. I have had my style sniped on both the Harleys I built. After I got my 64 Cadi on the road I didn't mind letting people know what parts I used or how I got everything to match up and work.

The reason for this van project being such a secret before I unveil it is because it is something I have not seen done on vans like ours. The van project isn't unique at all as a matter of fact. It just hasn't been applied to a van yet. I'm not going over the top stupid like the Van Go Econo, but it is definitely stupid enough. Especially since I'm going to have a "dumpster full of money" into it.

I complained to my dad once because a vanners used my dash idea on a van that was in competition whith me in my van class at events.
He just smiled and said to me "intimation is the ULTIMATE complement".......

Looking forwad to seeing pictures of the new van........

I really don't know quite what to think of this post but it's not standard fare of the VCVC.
Van's are just for fun, they have been making me happy since 1970.

I like that perspective Wookee. Thanks for sharing that story.

Hey Charley, I am glad this thread is not standard fare for this board. Like my projects, I take pride in being different. My old van was fun, this van will be fun and when it's done I'll have to charge money for rides because it's going to be a BLAST!

Thanks to all following this thread and for giving me the opportunity to be here. I hope you get to know me a little bit before you start calling me names and cussing at me...HAHAHA!

just to clarify for all, and i think i speak for all, we run a very clean and helpful site here. we appreciate that everyone has an opinion and different tastes, after all, if we all liked the same things it would be a boring world.
one thing we do not tolerate is offensive language and nasty behavior. my young boys look over my shoulder sometimes when i'm checking the site.
we are all here for the betterment of our hobby and really don't need to go there. i know this thread got off to a rough start but lets all enjoy this place many of us call home. save the bad stuff for pmails or emails. thank you. john
