My 68 has been in the body shop since mid November and I finally got to see some pictures of it. I hope I can post them.

inside is a work in progress. Maybe I should say a work to be done. The only thing I have done inside is to begin making an instrument cluster. It needs a lot.

The color will look a bit brighter in better light. Pics were taken very early in the morning on a cloudy day. The good looking woman at the body shop says it was extremely dusty. It'll look much better clean.

Have you thought about painting the "mural area" white? Looks great , BTW.

The only thing I have done inside is design a new instrument cluster and that is not finished. I tried to post a picture of the mock-up but it did not come through from my phone to my email so I can't post it.

The inside is pretty rough. I had the original seats reupholstered in a beige/tan
about 15 years ago. They still look great (the van has not been driven other than to move it around in my yard during that time) I am excited to finally be about to get it onto the road.
Thanks for the compliments.

26461Finally got it to post. The Masonite part is just a template and will be replaced with a polished aluminum bezel

I have thought about doing just that but I have pretty much decided not to do it. I have niether the wish nor thee money to do a radical custom so I will just keep it simple.

the permanent dash will be polished aluminum. I have it ready for the machine shop except I think I am going to have to cut out an arc on the lower right to clear the ignition switch bezel. Until I get the van back I can't tell for sure.

I am also running a polished aluminum bezel to hold my speedo./fuel / oil pressure gauges.
If you choose the correct size of the mounting bezel /plate you really should not have to cut the dash.......

I have changed this part of my dash a couple of times so far...

I definitely do not have to cut the dash. i might need to "notch" the bezel so it goes around th left edge of the ignition switch bezel.

I like the way yours looks. I think mine is a bit crowded. I might make some changes.

i am happy with this set up except that I used LED lights for my urnt signal and high beans,(green and blue)
in the dark this little lights are really bright. All most too bright.During the day they are perfect.

Former member here Matt.Made this bezel up for me.....

I noticed you have an aftermarket steering wheel. Is it the same diameter as the original? I think the original is quite large which helps in the absence of Power Steering. I have been looking but have not found one as large as the original

I've run everything from a 12" wheel

to the giant 16" wheel from a 67 Biscayne...

I had no problems steering with either, the trick is to just have a slight roll going.

Thanks for the response. I have driven mine so little since I bought it in 2000 that I really know nothing about the steering qualities of the van. I just assumed the big wheel was for leverage. I would guess the pull tab chain on the mirror has been around a while. I am sure we have not had that type of pop top since the early 70s.

That chain used to be about 20 feet long, until someone tried to pull it out of the car at a cruise night. That's all that is left now.

If the front end is in good shape and lubed, the steering isn't too bad. Obviously, the larger wheel will be easier- but if you have no medical condition causing pain it's not bad to drive.

She had an old rusty aftermarket 16 inch wheel when I found her

The Grant 16 inch wheel gave her just enough bling.......

I would love to find a factory sport van wheel at a resolvable price.....
This one will clean up decent at least one more time.......

The first thing i did when I found this van was load her up with all the fittings i could find with fresh grease...

I get to bring it home tomorrow! I am going to keep it around here for a little while to put the chrome valve covers and Cougar radiator in then I am pretty sure it will go to the upholsterer.

I am getting close to realizing a dream that began in the 80s when I owned an 1968 Ford Falcon window van. I had no money then and when it reached a point where it needed very expensive repairs (it was so rusted out it did not cast a shadow) I sold it for $125.00.
I always wanted another van with the engine between the seats and in 2000 I bought my 68. I have tinkered and messed around with it since. Now it is about to look and run like a van I can really have fun with.

I am EXCITED!!!
