Is this even doable? a 69 Camaro grille and headlights? Expensive mod, I'm guessing?

I tried it, minus the hidden headlights, about 25 years ago. A friend gave me a 69 Camaro grille and I tried mocking it up.

First thing- the width is a bit off. Not much, but enough to require moving the headlights or modifying the grill.

The depth is the big issue. To get it to fit like in the rendering you would need to do extensive mods to the toe board and floor. It gets pretty close to the clutch and brake.

To extend the body to match the depth of the grill, you will end up adding 4" to the nose, giving it a 'fishmouth' appearance.

I didn't take pics, this was back when taking pictures cost real money. Mocking it up with tape and posterboard revealed that while it looked ok from some angles, it was awkward at others.

Compare the rendering with an actual van:

Note how the headlights actually stick out of the stock grill slightly. This is the biggest problem. Extensive floor mods would be needed to move them back far enough for a 'sunken' grille to work. It probably is do-able, but when I looked at it way back when, it was more work than I wanted to get into.

if a guy could take the stacked three white lights and fill them with
leds possibly making them work as headlamps you wouldn`t need to
make the hidden panels function, just a thought.

That is an option I didn't have.

Which brings up-

If you have ever seen the size of the mechanicals for those hidden headlight doors, there is NO room for that in the nose of the van. They would have to be just covers.

its amazing how much there it to those hidden headlights an how much room they take up

This is the difference between an artist's rendering and an actually build.
It is a great idea.Actually being able to pull this buld off is a whole other story .
Lots of details in that art work.....

This is one I'd like to try for some reason if I ever got fat with cash and time .

On the Camaro one, I could see some major interior cab adjustment to make room for stuff like Gregg was saying. Move seats and dash back? different steering column. Look cool as hell.
