I got back Tuesday from Ajax's place in Canada with my new 70 GMC no-door in tow. (Thanks for the hospitality, Pete- Much Appreciated!) The van runs quite excellent, but the beer keg gas tank limits range somewhat. http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/wink.gif I've already begun work on her, and as soon as I get her cleaned up a bit more I'll send some pics.

It's great to be behind the wheel of an Early again! http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Congratulations Gregg!

There's nothing quite like climbing into a new early for the first time, realizing it's now yours, and rolling away. Maybe I'm just a little weird, but I talked to my '68 the whole way home.

Yeah, that does sound a little overboard. But that means that you are proud to own your van just like the rest of us.

P.S. Mine is named "The Mystery Machine II."

Mine used to be called "White Lightning" back in the `70's, but if I had to rename it, I kind of like "Thunderkiss `65" (I know it's not very original). Coincidentally, my name is Robert, as in Rob (Zombie!) --- TV

gotta get ready for a safety inspection, since the van was unplated in Canada. All the lights gotta work, good tires, good brakes (including the E-brake!!) horn, glass all has to be crack free.......jeez, we have cars on the road here don't even come CLOSE to passing this test, but because they have been registered they don't need to.

Anyway, only things I gotta fix are the horn and E-brake. I got the brake lights working (sticky switch) and put a liscense plate light on, 85 Dodge light fits with minor hole rework. put the 85 Dodge mirrors on too. I put a steering wheel on that was on my 87 Chevy, the cool little custom wheel goes back on after inspection.

WELL, I'M GLAD YOU MADE IT HOME. DEBBIE SAID YOU HAD CALLED AFTER YOU GOT PAST THE BORDER. HAPPY TO HEAR IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. WE LOST THE COMPUTER THE SAME DAY AND JUST GOT IT BACK TODAY. HAPPY MOTORING AND AS THEY SAY "DON'T CRUSH EM, RESTORE THEM" OR ROD THEM OR DRIVE THEM OR

Actually, the trip home was anticlimactic. She towed straight and true on the towbar. Got the horn working, somebody clipped the wiring and put a button next to the heater controls. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Of the 2 gas tanks, one may be salvageable. When I pulled the sender out I got a surprise though- the lead from the connector to the actual sender inside the tank had melted and you could see arc marks on the pickup tube. SCARY! I'm going to try to make one sender out of two. Taking the tank in to be boiled out and re-sealed. My boss knows someone who does powdercoating, says that if the tank has been boiled out he can coat it. http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/smile.gif I'm hoping to locate E-brake cables tomorrow, should have her legal in a week. http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Well, I just came in from the garage, and made a lot of progress today! I had some bay windows fron a conversion laying around, so I got out the Sawzall and installed two of em in the no-door. A friend of mine has some 59 Caddy tailights that I plan to french in. I also hae a fiberglass hi top pickup shell that I'm thinking of sectioning to make a Vista Cruiser roof. This is gonna be cool! http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

We don't have inspections in Michigan either, except when you are registering a vehicle that you purchased without a title or with a salvage title, which is what I'll have since the van was unplated in Canada.
With all the gravel trucks we have, an uncracked windshield is a rarity!
