In 1981, Chevy and GMC ceased production on the inline six cylinder engine. 20 years later, they've seen the light.

GMC is re-introducing the straight six in their new Envoy SUVs! It will also be available as a crate motor from GMC (not sure yet about Chevy). What's more, it's a Vortec 4200 that cranks out 270 h.p.! I got some info from some friends at a GMC dealership and scanned some info and a pic for you to see here: www.vcvc.org/vortec6.html (http://www.vcvc.org/vortec6.html)

It looked a little wide in my opinion, but was told that the photo makes the engine look much bigger than it really is.

How about that!!!?

ARE YOU KIDDING! THAT WOULD BE WAY TO LOGICAL. IF THEY DID THAT PEOPLE WOULD GO AROUND STICKING THEM IN OLD VANS AND STUFF.

Hey Greg,

I'm getting new tires for my '68 before the rally and was going to go with Firehawks. I wasn't bothered by Firestone's current problems, but I started reading up on the SS20s and found that they aren't real good in wet weather. Well, Louisiana IS the 'rain state', so I've opted away from them, but they do look great! I'm going with Goodrich T/A Radial 265/50R14s and 215/60R14s.

Please give me your impression of the Firehawks as I may be interested in them for weekend cruising.

My impression of Firehawks? Hmmm....Here Goes:

Squawk! Squawk! Oh HOTHOTHOT! SQUAWK!
Hehe...
I've never run them, Beaver Wally has, and I guess he's happy with em, I usually run whatever I can get a good price on. My 68 currently has some Pep Boys specials, 225/60-15 front and 295/50-15 rear. My winter ride 83 Dodge window is running Defender SRX 235/60-15 all the way around, decent in snow and rain. Previous owner got em at Discount Tire.

i have the firehawk SS20 on my little ford ranger and it isn't the best in the rain or snow. the SS10's that are on my van are fine in the rain, don't know about the snow caus it hasn't seen it in eight years. but when i took my van to the local drag strip and used my street tires, well lets just say that half the tire was stuck to the sides and roof of the van,(i'm still pulling off melted rubber)
