View Full Version : 35th Nats - What An Experience!!!

all i can say is, WOW!!!!!! I had a freakin INCREDIBLE time this weekend hanging with the club!!! And now for a little back-slapping....

VCVC was recognized as the club with the LARGEST PARTICIPATION (attendance) among all the other clubs at the Nats!!!!! What a way to show out, gentlemen!!! Smiley was awarded the banner proclaiming our victory in that respect. There were 31 early chevies there, although not all belonged to club members. 9 econolines, and 6 A-100's. 46, count 'em, FORTY SIX earlies at the event.

VCVC also won the most trophies of any club at the nats, coming home with a whopping NINE trophies, THREE of which went to the father and son team of Dave and Ryan Collins. They also took home the BEST IN SHOW!!!!! Thats right people, for the first time in nats history, an early being showed for the first time, took home best-in-show!!!!!

I partied my arse off friday night with the guys and gals until an unfortunate ending involving me on my hands and knees puking in front of my van. what a scene! thanks to andrew for the crown royal.

Saturday was a bit rough until i went for a ride with wookie in his van, at which point i felt much better. it was awesome to see everyone's rides up close and to finally meet so many of the people i've been talking to over the years. Vanky Panky, Smiley, and myself jammed out in one of the pavilions for a while and it was totally great!! I met so many vcvc'ers this weekend that I won't go into any details in that area except to say that every single person from our club there (and pretty much everyone in general!) are the nicest people that you ever want to meet. Talking to people on a message board does no justice to the incredible personalities of our members. I made so many new friends this weekend, and every one of them certainly helped to make the weekend AWESOME!!! I am way more motivated now to make some more events but I almost feel like I never want to go to another because this one was just the ultimate and nothing else could ever live up.

I will now cease to ramble on and let the forthcoming pictures do the talking. The vans were incredible!

Stay tuned!

-Tim

I wish I could remember all the names of the vanners i met. It was nice to finally meet Smilley. Remember Earlys rule!

65 Dream, those shirts were from a ranom act of vannerisim,I helped a retired vanner freind of mine who does shirts/print work, get his van running again(a 3rd gen, a bad ass 350 with a blower setting on top of it).
For exchange of time and the starter the van needed he did the shirts for me.I had just enough made to go around at the Nats.......

I was suprised when Smiley and Carl came up with shirts from the 1st VCVC rallies. They were a nice desighn with Rick Linkel art work on them ........

My two twin granddaughters couldn't beleive grandpas' van and loved it. They never were allowed in it in the garage at home but took to it like a fish in water at the eVant!

We parked the 69 Sportvan with VCVC the first night then relocated near the building where the band played near the front gate. We provided the band equipment/lights etc. for the VCVC jam and were glad we had a building to play in since it rained everyday. We were also able to keep the equipment set up which was nice. My son brought his van too a 1975 chevy van which is a third generation. We chose to be close to the equipment and appreciated all the hospitality of the VCVC. It must say it wasn't long after I pulled out the my VCVC space it was filled with another early. Had a great time though did make the lineup with the 69. Way cool! VP

That's so wonderful to see that footage. Being there was an honor. I was just thinking today at work that before I die, I want to see a 100 early Chevy lineup. I may be dreaming, but then again, I never thought I'd see what I did a couple weeks ago.

James you have a year to prep for it.

The 38 th will most likely be the most cetrally located nats.
They try to keep the location of the following years nats under wraps untill the weekend of the Nationals.Due to the internet and people can't keep a secret the location leaks out after the CofC's meeting in feb.
There is sctuttle but of it comming back east. Here again its up to the Nationals Board and the bid prosses.

Nice video carl you da man.I will take a disk if you do them up this year.

100 might be a stretch but then I know of at least 10 earlys that did not make this years Nationals. They would have put us at over 50.

I got goose pimples watching that vid.......Good vanner porn.......LOL

Hey Ed,
To answer your comment/question about van parts ask Rollie, Al Skufca and other vanners as they all have received free parts from yours truly over the years. Also a veteran vanner at the 35th Nats graciously provided us and others with free early van parts. Enuf said? (VP)

VP,
i for one think that records like rules are made to be broken and if we can keep up this kind of enthusiasm as a club then we will just keep setting records. there were so many earlies there that aren't in VCVC. I was trying to recruit all weekend, hopefully with some success, we'll see. anyway with the nats being even more central in the country next year i think we can break the current record with chevys only if we keep everybodies enthusiasm up and help each other get them old vans on the road and driving. I know that we are a REAL club but it feels even that much more solid having met some of you guys face to face. lets get the banner again next year!!!! and the trophies!!!! and the best campsite!!!!

I plan on going with a different van I have orders to get one in the shop for a redo this winter, a guy I work with flew over and took a picture of my place. I am working on a bike in front of the garage (behind tree), there are 8 vans setting outside. The one on the trailer is scheduled for the scrapman.

I had to put two pictures together because even with Spider's professional style camera and advantage point it would of taken a fish eye wide angle lens to fit the huge line of vans. Which would be quite distorted.
If we have a bigger showing next year we might need a plane or something.
The collage below is done by a program called Picasa used to upload pictures in Google's picture accounts. It took a long time for my PC which ain't slow, to pile over a 1000 pictures up.

looking good Carl-.. 2 things pointed out to me
IMFAMOUS LINE UP should read Famous Line up
(proper english i guess)
and spyder spells it with a Y
(improper english i guess)
-
if we come even close to the numbers in our line up next year
i was thinking rows of 10 wide
or band of vans in circles
-
spyders camera he used was around 40k
yes FOURTY GRAND! 40 THOUSAND bucks
you know we're doin somethin big
when a camera like that can't take our pic http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/wink.gif

Leadfoot your right I'm not much good with english. I looked up infamous and it said "having a bad reputation"
Sorry I mispelled Syder's name I saw it spelled both ways and I went with the way you spelled it in your email. It would be kinda hard to change since I didn't save it as a photoshop file. It was mostly just practice to make one for print.
A $40,000 camera...I take it that he is a profesional or has way to much maney to blow. I spent $1,500 on my camcorder and accessories but that is some serious bucks!
It's funny I didnt count them to find the middle but I used Optic's van especially the surfboard for a match point of the two pictures.
Ryan did you and your dad wait till you got home to tell your mom?
Here is one I think is the cutest. I'm not sure who took it.

Carl, we called my mom an hour or so after the awards ceremony and let her know. she was sort of like, "what? what does that mean!?! thats neat-o!" haha she still thinks we are crazy... but crazy with a great purpose http://www.vcvc.org/ubb/wink.gif. It really is impossible to explain the magnitude of everything that happened that week to someone that wasn't there. And outside the vanning world. vans aren't percieved well. Just recently we took our baby blue '67 to a local car show. It ended up being third in the class losing to a 1990 ford farm truck complete with rust/mud laiden lift kit and "redneck" stickers in the windshield. and to a 1952 chevy pick-up that appeared like it was brush painted. haha It's pretty funny, the van world and the car/truck enthusiast world are literally a universe apart. people see a van and go "woah! something different? get away!" thats why the nats and van events alike are so great, because so many people with the same passion can come together.
