One of our charter members, Al Furnish (New Mexico), bought his '65 Sportvan in February 1967. This photo was taken 2 days after they bought it:

The Vintage Chevy Van Club was formed in January of 1998 to help bring together owners and enthusiasts of the 1964-1970 Chevy and GMC vans. The club website debuted on January 28, 1998. It consisted of a few simple pages and an email link. The club newsletter, the Early Edition, soon followed. It was the primary connection between members for the first 2 years of the club.

For the first time in over 10 years, you can visit the original site!
The club message board opened on April 14, 2000. With it, the level of instant communication officially retired the club newsletter and rapidly began building a database of invaluable information; one that will serve to ensure the perpetuity of our vans. Since then, it has grown into the leading resource for information and the largest communal gathering for early vans of any make.

The first official rally was held in Branson, MO from June 8-10, 2001, and was a huge success (by our 2001 expectations, at least). The VCVC Leftcoast rally followed on August 3-5, 2001, at Whistler's Bend, OR. A third rally, Taz's Vintage Chevy Van Fest, closed out the year in Waukegan, IL over the Labor Day Weekend, 2001. Taz's Vintage Chevy Van Fest has become a mainstay of the vanning season ever since.

In 2007, the Vintage Chevy Van Club was awarded "Largest Participating Club" at the 35th Nats in Cortland, OH. Currently, the VCVC is arguably the largest active van club in the world.

VHT paint works well in that it doesn't burn off, but as far as heat reduction goes, it would take a lot of paint to provide any noticeable insulation.

The hotter you can run the engine, the more efficient it will be.

I use a 180 thermostat year round and aim to keep my temps below 200. 185-195
