I just love the feeling of driving this in public. I am sure you all have had the experience. Enjoy it as much as you can.

Most people who buy these vans are scared to drive them on the highway with the low gear ratio.
This was the norm back then. They also had 55 MPH highways all over the country.
I had a 1st gen with a 4:10 gear ratio that I drove and kept up with my late model club members.
I led more than one convoy to a van event.Where the guys in the back where hollering at me to slow down.....LOL
For me most van events are two to four hours away.Steep hills and grades are common place.
The 250 6 and synchronized 3 speed also pulled these grades pretty good.
As far as the paint on your van goes.Nothing like working with what you got to get the job done.
A lot of Vanners have done the same thing....

Since this thread is semi hijacked anyway...
I used Duplicolor rattle cans to test out some color on the front end rust and dent repair I did the other day. It looks ok, kind of a hassle with a can, and I theoretically could do the whole 108 that way. But I was thinking of getting the basic spray compressor and gun from Harbor Freight and shooting it with some single stage paint I can order through the parts store. Here is my question though: If I do one side at a time in my garage, or out in the driveway, how toxic is that paint compared to a rattle can of enamel? Will my house stink forever?
I looked into paint booth rental, its 300-400 dollars. So by the time I buy all the other stuff, it might be better to find a low end shop to do all for me.

Paint fumes are pretty nasty. The smell in a house could stick around for a while.
I would not recommend it.
However.if you have enough space between you and your neighbors.
No HOA to worry about.A good paint job can be pulled off out side.
It does take a bit more prep work .Also a bit of work after the paint cures.
It is another reason why paint is so expensive.
The EPA did not want the paint fumes in the air from people shooting paint out side of a non filtered professions paint booth.
300 to 400 dollars is not too bad to rent a booth. Considering an all over paint job is in the 1,000.00 or more price range...Last edited by Wookee; 04-17-2018, 09:24 AM.Its a "van thing". A life style you have to live to understand!!!!
