As billo stated the 40 Van Nats will be at the Walworth County Fairgrounds in Elkhorn Wisconsin. VCVC will be hosting the warm-up party and a few members are also members of Dairyland Vanners the hosts of the 40th Van Nats. If you have questions on what you can do to help please contact Smiley, Macsdoghouse, or Taz.

FARTING is cool.
By Fart i mean fly and rent a van.If the Nationals to to long of a drive or there is time constraints.Flying into the closest air port and renting a mini van or a full sized is cool.
while we all stay at the far grounds in out vans some vanner do rent local hotel rooms that they can go back to.
let us know we can and will work with you in any way we can to get you to this event.
REDMAN we will have access to golf carts........

can anyone tell me what the rules are on admitting golf carts? we may opt to bring one and i'd like to play by the rules. john
If you bring your own golf cart you will need to have it insured.
bring the paper work with you to the event.
Because you will have a special need person with you that is all you should need.
Taz is working on prices for rentals out there let him know if you want or need to rent one.

Ok, i know i'm a complete noob vanner. How do the Nats work? I see it runs for 5 days (or is it 7?). Do you stay there like campgrounds? Or do people stay in hotels nearby? Can you come into the grounds and leave whenever you want? I've been to one van party, last fall at Taz's house and my wife and i had a great time and met a bunch of very, very nice people. But that was one day (10 hours maybe). What do you do there for 5 days?? Do I have to stay there, should I? I only live 30 min from Elkhorn. What would I bring? I've been to plenty of car shows, even the Iola Old Car Show/Swap Meet every year thats so huge it takes at least 3 days to see it all. We've gone to that, which required tents, campfires, coolers, etc. Is this like that? Sorry for all the questions. I just wish i knew what to expect.
Bill
nipring,
smiley suggested i answer you because in the scheme of things (although i've had my early for over a year) i'm a newbee too...last year was my first nats....actually it was my first vanning event ever.....other than the small gatherings we've had in new orleans on the fly.
The 40th is going to be something special, especially since VCVC is hosting the warm up party (Monday & Tuesday)....which is why the length of the event may seem confusing...but you are really lucky, living so close. (If you can come in for the warm up, even better....you'll get a choice spot to set up for the week.)
I'll try to answer some of your questions....
Where to stay? In your van, of course!
I, like you, envisioned renting a hotel room somewhere so i could shower, relax, etc. Now, I can't imagine doing that.
Drive in and park with the VCVC group. Set up your home for the week. Some vanners pull a camper and sleep in there; others use tents. Last year, smiley & I slept in my van. There is electricity via extension cords; ice to keep your drinks & food cool; and showers to well, shower. Food is available from the food merchants, but most people bring their own; bbq on a campfire or bring an electric burner, etc.
What do we do there for 5 days? well, vanners who've been going for years visit with old friends. I made new friends. I was able to put faces with names.....dream weaver; g-man; wookee; bvrwally; taz, primer donah, wildave. there are events going on all the time: show & shine; burn out event; bands, the wildly popular "bright & shine". There is also alot of forced relaxation....visiting with club members....learning about our vans....seeing with your own eyes all the work that has been put into the vans we've only seen on the 'net. you have to experience it to understand....the days went by fast....and i can't wait until this year.
can you drive in and out? ...well, if you know you want to do alot of that (esp since you live so close) I'd suggest driving your van in and then having an extra car outside the campgrounds. Only vans & panels are allowed on the campsite.
Should you stay the whole time?
I say yes..... it's the perfect opportunity for the friendships you've begun on the site to be continued in person....even if for only a week a year.
Hope to see you there!

A vary GOOD explanation Amie.
Van events are really hard to enplane to somebody who has never attended one.
You can look at all the pictures and read every thing that vanners that attend these events write about them.Unfortunately all of what you read and see fall short of actually attending a van event.
Roll the biggest field party, car show(with out the attitudes),out door rock concert, all together. You have a large van event like the "Van Nationals".
The big thing that sets any van event apart from other events is the vanners who attend them.
You can walk into any club site a stranger,When you walk back out you have just made a new group of friends.

Its a "van thing". A life style you have to live to understand!!!!
Great explanation Amie!
In addition:
You can go in and out as often as you want, just make sure your have your sticker on the van and any items the host clubs requires for re-entry. At the Illinois Nats a couple of years ago, we went in and out everyday.
If you cannot make it the whole time, check the Nats website (link shown on page 1 of this post) for schedules of what is happening each day so you will know when to be there to not miss the things you want to see.
Think of it it as a much larger Taz event (with hopefully 700+ vans at it). We were at Taz's with our early also. If you had a good time at Taz's, you will have a great time at the Nats.
Bring whatever you would normally bring for a camping weekend, don't forget suntan lotion, the Nats can be very hot and we always hope for sun for the show & shine. If you forget something, don't worry, usually someone will have it to lend out and town is close by too.
