Yea, it's a hoot. Non- boosted drum brakes front and rear, solid axles front and rear on leafs with no panhard bars and manual steering to boot. Quirky doesn't even describe it. The van torque steers under hard power, the front end gets real light and past 90mph...it's scary...the stopping distance with those drum brakes demands a nice following distance, so you can only lay into the throttle about as far as you can stop.

Hills are quite fun. Especially when you can pass up traffic pulling boost on the motor in overdrive. 2500 rpm just cruising up a steep hill at 85mph with the torque converter locked and the little blower just singing it's heart out, then you put your foot on it and just start pulling away, the transmission will drop down a gear, motor jumps up to 3500 rpm and speeds just climb. I really don't know how fast it will go. Never had the balls to stay in it long enough. I hit 120 once, but it's very sketchy and it still had more to give.

It's really good at doing burn outs without having to hold the brakes, just put it in second gear and floor it. Don't even have to think about it..in fact, it's harder to not squeal the tires and takes concentrated effort to prevent wheel spin off of stop lights. The van has a limited slip, so it's laying down double black lines. Eventually I am going to put in a line lock so I can really roast some tires. I have 4 bad tires lying in my back yard just waiting for me to get around to it.

I just noticed you four linked your rear end? Or is that a ladder bar setup?

I have a old dirt track car aluminum radiator with an electric fan. I ditch the mechanical fan as the blower snout wouldn't clear it and there wasn't enough space to simply add spacers, I tried, but the vibrations were not good. So I went electric. I had to install an oil cooler and two..yes two transmission coolers and routed them back outside of the engine compartment to reduce heat by the engine and on the radiator. I had my headers coated to help keep the heat in the exhaust and I put a small scoop plus a ram air duel plenum cowling to direct cool air into the carb and around the engine. The cowling did the trick. The increased airflow through the doghouse pushes all that stagnant hot air out. The airflow through the radiator is reduced, but it seems to work much more efficiently now.
