It ends Sunday morning so come on down tomorrow (Saturday). We're having a van cruise as well as a little van favorites vote.

I'd like to thank everyone again for everything, the rally was a lot of fun and I'm already planning on the next one in 5 years.
It was great meeting everybody in person and especially watching Michael do that awesome pinstriping.
Wouldn't you know it, I got an idea for something I could have had him do on my van...on the way home.

    Back home.

Made it back home safe and sound. 3800 mile round trip! I think 108VanGuy still has me beat in the distance traveled category.

I also want to thank everyone involved in making this happen. First class group. It's great to be among a crowd of people that share the same passion for these old vans. It's not something that I get to experience often. The collective knowledge and ideas of our members is amazing!
    All the best,

It was great to see you again, and meet that dirty Newfie you had with you! You probably don't know this, but you won "Best 2nd gen" in the van show, so, I have your plaque to mail to you. Always a pleasure to have you with us, Zach. I can safely say that everyone would agree as well.

Awesome time, and a perfect campground. While I didn't take my early since the brakes are still under construction, the 83 performed flawlessly and even got a little love from the crowd....... I am certain this is the only time it will get more votes than 'Star Dreamer'!

This is the best bunch of folks I've ever had the pleasure to hang out with, period.

    Thank you

I made it home safe around 10:00pm or so last night (Monday). The van ran great with only one miner issue we discovered Sunday night in Ohio. A trans line at the trans started leaking a bit. In the morning I went and touched it and turned a small leak into a big leak LOL. So I disconnected the line from trans and found that the flare on my temporary aluminum cooler line was sub par. Mike (Primer Donah) and I hit the auto store and grabbed a flare tool, a small tubing cutter, and some trans fluid. Then I cut and re-flared the line, connected it back to the trans, checked for a leak, added some trans fluid and off to breakfast we went.
I can't tell you how happy and excited I was to be there with you all. I was looking forward to this from day one and it was everything I hoped for and more. You are some of the kindest, most friendliest, and giving people I have ever met. I can't thank you all enough for everything. I consider it an honor and a privilege to be apart of this club. I love each and every one of you.

Coop, it was nice to finally meet you. Wish I spent more time talking with many of the members including you. It was Good to see you with the family. Made me miss mine back home. Original plan was for them to be there too. It would have been nice to see Elise my 2 and 1/2 year old daughter meet and play with your daughter.

I arrived home on a Sunday night flight at 11:15 in Los Angeles. It was awesome to be able to meet many of you in person. It was a good bunch and great times.

My way there was not great at all. I planned on getting back to work Monday in Los Angeles so I knew flying was the only option. Knowing vacation starts Tuesday. So I booked a flight for my wife, my daughter, and me ahead of time. It was a good deal. It all went all out the window once we ran into issues with traffic and then TSA. Taking a child car seat was not the best choice especially when you're cutting it close. It took a while to get an agent to inspect the seat and then they took their time. And they still decided to do the same to some luggage I had. I sent my wife and baby ahead so they can board the plane. By the time I ran with the items and got to the gate, I was seconds too late and just saw my wife and daughter being escorted out. Pleading didn't work and my heart just sunk. The trip I was set on going since the day Smiley planned it out was in one day just snatched away. Next flight on the same airline was till Sunday. I knew it was the worst scenario...the event is over on Sunday. Long story short after searching for flights and prices on different airlines and realizing the cost of one way tickets for the three of us ($2000)at the last minute, my wife Patty was the sensible one that did not let me go through on repurchasing more tickets for all. She knew I had to go to the rally and was with me as I searched for a one way ticket for myself. It took a while but I found one. Spent a lot of time at the airport Thursday night. Had cancelled flights in Dallas Friday Morning and took chances on standby flights. After a car rental on my arrival in Springfield, a wait for my luggage that was still in Dallas on the next flight, finally made it to Branson around 1:50pm. Talking to my wife throughout the travel, she reassured me that they were ok and wished me good times.

Good times started right away as I drove into the campsite with my rental. I was immediately greeted by Amie and Taz as she handed over the welcoming bag and New VCVC rally shirts, and he handed over a freshly made well needed red blended drink. I still hadn't parked lol. It turned out to be a great weekend, with great VCVC family. Coop is absolutely right. Everyone was giving and full of love. I'll be posting pictures a bit at a time.

Coop, when I read your post it hit a spot in me that I haven't felt in a long time. I grew up in a time where people used to take care of one another and help in any way needed, it's something you just don't see a lot of these days. Living in LA for 35 years I hardly even know my neighbors and I've lived in the same house for 30 years. Through this site it's instilled so much good feeling again and I'm back home as a kid. When the city told me I couldn't keep my vans in my driveway I posted that I needed help moving them. Mark, 108 Van Guy who I didn't know from Adam, said he would drive 6 hours from Sacramento and help if I needed him, where can you find such kindness like that these days? I did get help from other members and the move was successful.

A month ago when the shit was hitting the fan at work, Mark also read a post where I said that I really needed a break, called and invited me join him on the trip. Man I was so tempted and I told him the owner of the company I manage was in jail and the post was a just a way of releasing a little stress. I was trying to keep his business a float so his wife and kids could survive. He doesn't care about anything but drugs and alcohol now and still has to serve 160 days, so the end is coming real soon.

If the show was next month when I'm unemployed I would have made the trip in a heartbeat. At least I will have more van time and may even get it on the road a lot sooner than planned. Life goes on.

What a great place I found here and happy to be a very small part of. Sorry about the rant, it's been a rough few months.

I feel the same way. That would have been awesome to meet the whole family. I hope you can bring them to the next get together.

Well said. I am so sorry t hear about your job, sorry to say but your boss sounds like a total ASS! I wish you the best of luck with the job search, I hope it's a fast one. If there is anything I can do please just ask.

Thank you Smiley and Amie! Thank you Mark, Bill, Mike! You guys made a flawless team. Thanks Taz for the specialty drinks and dogs! You guys all rocked. It was awesome to see familiar vans in person and meet face to face with members. All vans that I see on VCVC that members customize, restore, or just use in van events, and take pictures to show us all, and don't get to see in person are all famous to me. So to see them all in person, at the same place was nice. It was awesome to see vans and talk vans all weekend. Parts in the rally have helped out many members. I want to personally thank Ira and Cody who helped members in the west coast get some much needed parts this weekend. Ira, Your bench seats are helping Gary OC Carguy. GMC hubcaps will help Erik Monkeykongking. Cody your emblems will help Russell, and door straps will help Gary OC Carguy as well. It was fun looking at parts and being that third party that helped connect these parts together with member. A big thank you is definitely owed to Mark not only for his Big efforts throughout the week but for also being the actual guy helping out members getting these valuable parts With his vantainer as he travels back to the west coast. It was a pleasure to meet you all and can't wait to share more memories together.

Thanks Coop, my boss needs help but refuses to acknowledge his problems.

Not worried, I have a part time job with the city and they would love to have me work more hours. The wife is going to cover the rest so I can take time off and take a trip to PA to see my family in August before job hunting. There are a few members in northern Jersey I'm gonna try and visit when I'm there and if I have enough time maybe a trip to Long Island? Anyway, this thread is about last weekend and I didn't mean to get off track.

I'm glad you made it there Jose, what a nightmare. I'll have some Rolling Rocks on ice, stop over and we can talk about your trip, I'm sure you have lots of pictures.

    Worked Out Great!

I've been looking forward to this rally since Smiley posted it up. When was that? years ago? When it got to being a few weeks away, I started getting organised. There was so much stuff I wanted to take I wasn't sure it would all fit in the van. I didn't even think about the weight until I started to drive it and then it was too late to do anything about it. My thinking on this rally was; these VCVanners will get hungry, why not feed them, and feed them well? Spoil them the best you can. Then when they say WOW (hopefully) just give an innocent look and say "Gosh, isn't that how you do it at all these rallys? There was no way to know how many to cook for so I came loaded with plenty. When I was loading up, my wife said "You don't have to feed them all, do you?" I think I ducked that question but I was saying to myself; "I'm gonna try" Even two days away from leaving I didn't know if I would be traveling alone. Freaky was trying to get his van up and running all that last week. As it turned out Freaky decided to travel with me which made it possible to be at Branson Monday morning. On the way, I told Freaky about my feed the VCVanner plans. Turns out he's done this kind of thing before and was all in to help out. Once set up we got another big help with StayPuff (Bill). Apparently he's done this before as well. His experience with meal planning, portion control and organisation allowed us to get it done much better. It allowed everyone to get a taste of everything on their first pass through the serving line. After that, the second time through was pretty much help yourself. Because of this process, we had very little wasted food. We worked as a team to serve the members. With meals taken care of, members had more time to fellowship and didn't eat alone in their individual spots. Members started to trickle in on Tuesday (?) First Taz and then Smiley. We started to cook a little but cranked it up more on Wednesday. By Thursday we were hitting our pace and telling members "Ah, that's just the practice food, the good stuff is coming Friday". Smiley said that the biggest group would be there that night. So that's when we sprang the main feast; Beef Brisket, Smoked Pork ribs (St. Louis and baby back), smoked Chicken wings, Pineapple upside down cake, Peach cobbler and probably a few other things I'm forgetting. Come and get it! I'm getting hungry again. Saturday was more good stuff since we had a second brisket in the cooker along with more goodies. It was so fun to pull this off. Could not have done it without Bill and Mike. Anyway, the way it turned out was beyond my expectations. Thanks to all who came and allowed us to do this. For those that could not make it, we missed you. Please consider coming to the next rally.
The way it worked out, the last couple of weeks turned out like this for me; 2+ days prep and load, 2 days travel, 2 days set up, 4 days rally, 1 day to Dallas, 2 days rest, 1 day to Phoenix, 1 day to home with a stop in LA. I'm still unloading.
Great rally, has the rally clock been reset for the next one yet?

I've told everyone I've talked to about you feeding the flock. It was an extraordinary gesture. I make a living from going to rallies and I've never seen such. Hats off to you.

Mark, what you did was phenomenal. I wish I had that level of organization. The food was awesome, and much appreciated.

Again, this is why I am proud to be a member of this club, when this all started I never dreamed it would reach this level.

I firmly believe this club succeeds because everyone is an equal, and everyone does what their particular talent allows.
