    Cool

I have been collecting parts for this van for a while now.,because my shop is not set up with a lift ihad to pull the engine out through the front.
this means removing the grill rad and upper core support.while i have it apert Ifigure now is the time to do a retro grill swap.
I have all ways liked the look of the early 3rd gen grills. It is one of those mods that if you know noting about vans you will never really notice it.
I needed a good hood.108van guy came up with a nice one for me.

Under the repainted stripes is a pretty decent skin.

Because of the large factory window in the sliding door.I have been toying with the idea of hiding it with a black stripe/ grffic combo.
painting this hood black would be needed.
it's looking nice enough that with a small amount of work it will hold black very well

    Big Red

Wookie , When you say " retro grille " do you mean 77 and earlier factory grille ? Once tried to put an 85 grille on my 77 , couldn't make it fit , I'm a bolt on guy not a fabricator . Later I was told Chevy massaged the front of the 3rd Gens in 78 and made them more square ??. Saw a 3rd Gen with a 71/72 Chevy truck grille (egg crate style ) looked really nice . Uncle Ron

It can be done, but you need the hood, and the complete radiator support with headlight mounts. I was going to do it on my 87, even had all the parts available free, but never got the time to do it.

    Cool

When GM started the mid 3rd gen desighn (78), they changed enough stuff over to make the swap so it was not quite a bolt in swap.
How ever this has been pulled off several times by different vanners.
Here is the main part that is needed

Along with a hood (latch is different) upper core support and front bumper.
I had a 76 Chevy here that was in pretty bad shape body wise.
I removed all of the needed parts sent the rest to the scrap yard.
I did the tail light conversion when I 1st got the van.

I also have a nice station wagon rear bumper. So I can smooth out the rear sheet metal.,

My goal is to have two vans at this year's Nationals

    Cool

this van was just too good of a van to just junk after it served us so well.
bought used in 95 this 93 GMC conversion van was a geat dialy driver van.fully loaded 4.3 4 speed automatic van.
when we bought this van I had scored a job working nights. The wife worked her day job.We both had a 70 mile round trip commute to work.
I would pull in the drive way in the morning and the wife would jump in it and leave. We put 240,000 miles on this van before i had to park it.
we also took the van on quite a few week long road trip style vacations.this project was put on the back burner.it has been setting in my garage for 12 years now.Hope fully when i get Big bed up and running I can turn my attention to this van........
