Depends on how much tire you want sticking out. kookykrispy runs some wide meats in the back. I ran 295/50-15's on 8.5" wide rims on my 68, rubber stuck out maybe an inch.

1968 Chevy G20 108 panel Now with 454 power!
1965 Chevy G10 panel- OHC Pontiac inline 6
theway these vans are set up spring wise cam allow you to run some pretty dat meats in the rear.
I am runninga 275/60 15 tire on an 8incj Corvette style rally rim ,with a 4 inch back space.
with just the sparxe interior these tire do not run the fender well opening.
However when the van is loaded up with a weeks worth of camping gear.Big bumps/dips in the road at higher speeds i do get a bit of a rub on this set up..
A 15X12 rim might be a special order rim .Depending on the style of rim you waqnt to run.
15X10 rims are a more standard size.some rim manufactures offer these rims in variose back spaces...
Good luck to you on your venture.

Its a "van thing". A life style you have to live to understand!!!!
I'm running 325/50r15 Nitto Drag Radials on 15x10 cragars on Hella Sunshine. I use a 1" lift block and the cragars are custom 4.5" backspacing.
A more common tire size is 295/50r15, which will fit on a standard 15x9 or 10 wheel, with no mods needed.
Here is my buddy rodney's no door with 15x9 turbines & 295/50's

And that, in a nutshell is what is so awesome about this group of friend's called VCVC! That is exactly what I was asking. I recently was approved to receive my disability. That means I can start fixing things using money instead of scrounged parts. 3 times now I have replaced the front brakes using used shoes to keep from damaging the finned drums. Been dreaming of shocks, and bushings, and tie rod ends etc. And almost as important, STANCE! Thanks guys that was very helpful. I'll post some pictures as soon as something happens.

I have 15 by 12's on TurboVan, but it also has a '67 Camaro rear, which is a little narrower.
5.5" backspacing I think.
295/50r15 T/A's.

Last time I was poking around under my 2nd gen, a thought struck me. I haven't explored it any further, but probably will the next time I put it in the air. Is there any reason the springs couldn't be moved inboard in the rear? I think with a little fabrication, the shackles could be move inward to the subframe rather than on the little extensions... Would make for more tire room, especially if bagged or the shocks were moved too
