Our pal Munz did something I'm pretty sure with Target, a few years back. This could be the result.

No seat belts and no seat belt rules in '65. We did that all the time. In fact, some guys liked riding on the lid, they loved the view. When the first kid came along we anchored the her car seat to the lid.

    No Chevy Bowtie Emblem?

So we can't be proud of our American heritage that we share together?

    Ugh.

    Cool

Hot Chicks loved to ride on the doghouse lid..
Then the lefties passed mandatory seat belt laws.
If Detroit had to do it.We ALL had to do it
For all of our own safety.

Quick trip in the "Way Back Machine"

There was a first gen that used to come into the local car hang out.
The guy that built it had two friends.
they all way rode around together in one or Other's cars All 3 of there cars where pretty fast .
When they had the 1st gen out it looked like a wall of meat.through the vans flat windshield.
Big fat tires hanging well out side the rear fender wells on fully reversed 10 inch mags...N's &10s.
We all used to cruise from one car hangout to another one just in side the city limits.
it was a busy Friday night the first car hot spot was starting to thin out.
Time to go to hot spot #2.
Half way there they had one lane of the main road blocked of.
It was late enough that the accident slowed the pace a bit.The local cops had all the lights through that section of town on green.
I rolled past the accident.it was the 1st Gen Meat Wagon.
the windshield was still laying across the hood of the 68 LTD.The drivers door was right at the end of the drivers side fender.buckled shut.
The three guys where still sitting along the curb. The local fire house heard the accident.they where attending to the driver and both passengers.
All three where ejected through the windshield Nobody was wearing belts.
Not long after this event went down all thee of the friends where tooling around town in newer to them Hot rods.

No I never had seat belts in my 1st gen.

I used the excuse there no hole in the dog house or wheel wells to install them.
We put a ton of miles on that old girl.We attended as many as 6 van events a summer.A bunch of these events where in convoys from 5 to 35 Vans long...
We had a couple close calls but never any actual wrecks.
It was a 6 cylinder synchronized three on the tree van. However it looked fast.Shifted very nice
    I would get challenged a lot,cruising around.
I would just smile and wave.......

Jalopnic...another car forum full of car guys who do not have a clue....
It does not help that the photoshop hack.Left some important detail out on the van.
When I first saw this I thought it was two dudes and kids in this poorely rendered 1st gen...
In the picture that Jalopnic posted the driver mow looks like a female. There is now a earring in it's left ear and it's shirt is unbuttoned more.
Things that make you go HHHHUUUMMM.......LOL...

Was at target the other day... all signs were replaced with a different picture... wish I could have gotten a van sign... I'm sure they just trashed them.

Sure, why not? You can alter storm paths with them so a grill should be no problem.

It actually looks pretty good without the grill holes but we all know what would happen without them. I think GM went a little too far on cost saving with that one design element, they could have made that piece of real estate on the nose look a bit better. I think I saw a picture once of a first gen with a 57 Chevy grill added and it looked pretty cool.
