Mac and I have had rear gears swapped in our 10-bolts before. I'm sure the same can be done with the 12-bolt. I'm not sure what size that is though. 8.5"?

You can identify the axle by the cover. Scroll down in this link to find GM axles.

you will need a carrier too! 3.73 as highest [lowest number] that will fit your current carrier.

    Cool

    I swapped my 4:11 gear ratio to a 3:08.
I used a pick up truck 12 bolt and the vans 12 bolt.
I had a local shop do the swap for me..

    Cool

I am pretty sure the lowest gear ratio these vans came with was a 3:36.
The late model V/8 2nd gen Sport Vans might have came with a 3:08.But I doubt it.
These Vans where set up more for around town type deliveries.
The General geared them to do this task.
The Sport Vans where more set up for high way driving.
The 3:36 gear ratio rear that I had here came out of a 1st gen Sport Van.

Rears from 1st gen vans WILL NOT cleanly interchange with 2nd gen Vans
