You are doing things in the right order.
On a good Van interior build.Things like stereo wires and interior light wires, along with there supporting electronics need to be ran 1st.
Then the rest of the interior can be made up & installed afterwards...
Its a "van thing". A life style you have to live to understand!!!!

    Progress???

Loving the van! Especially the curved front on the bed and the blue floor planks. Any updates or progress? I'm looking forward to seeing those finished panels!

I've been doing wiring for lighting schemes lately, but it doesn't look like anything.

Finally got the tips tig welded onto the exhaust, last month. While my friend was welding them on, I realized I need a lighting scheme for the exhaust now.

Got a pair of NOS blue and chrome coach lights that will eventually go on the forward side of the partition, once it's upholstered.

After much wrangling, I got the EQ wired in. Much happier with the sound of the reel-to-reel in there now. Still need to get rid of the noise the inverter is adding to the signal.

Next up, cutting the floor boards to fit around the doghouse, so I can put a final clear on them.

    It's been a while.

I couldn't wait to get home from the Nats to get back on the van. Two days after getting home, I started work again and didn't have a day off for fifty-something days. Ugh.

Back when the van was at Mac's house for the build, sumthin happened. We were installing the brake system and had the front of the van on jackstands. Without paying attention to how high we had it up in the air, I opened the garage door. The automatic door mechanism just about tore a hole down the roof. We didn't tell anyone. The sound was awful. Several years later, I was finally able to get the van back in at Joel's plave to make it go away. Two weekends ago, I drove the van over (yes, I drove it 60 miles each way). It drove perfectly.

The gouge had been touched up in 2017 so it wasn't as obvious for the indoor car show debut.

In about four days, it was back to its proper self. I'm still amazed (acutally amazed, not conversationally amazed) that you can't tell it was ever there. He was able to blend the flake in perfectly.

Yesterday, in a fit of frustration, I got out to the garage and cut down all the floor boards to fit. In this photo, they are sanded down smooth, so they're glasslike but dull.
I can now spray them with the final passes of clean and install them.

It was a very unproductive Fall and start to the year. Working too much had me to the point of not even seeing the van for a week or more at a time. As that time piled up, it acted as a depressant; causing me to avoid even going near it.

Iíve had to scrap all the notions and obstacles in my head in order to refocus. Iíve been back in the garage just about every day since getting back from Wookeeís memorial service. I decided to channel that emotion into finishing the van for summer.

Figured out a way to make an access panel in my floor boards to still get to the battery. Decided on a partition wall shape. Designed a cooler holder for behind the passenger seat.

The intent is to get it to the upholsterer by April. Not looking at the calendar though. At this point, just plowing.

    Iíll post pics later.

    Battery access option

Looking awesome Smiley! I'd be crying if I expereinced the roof story you shared! One time just after paint I backed my van out of the workshop and had a back door open without knowing it. It just cleared the door jamb, so no damage, but felt like it caused a partial heart attack for sure!. Keep plugging!

Regarding battery access cover, I decided to cover mine up on the floor/interior. I installed an Optima side terminal battery. I found that the splash guard at the back of the stock battery holder was able to bend up so I can slide the battery in/out from underneath the van, then just bend it back down. I also installed a shut off switch under the van so I can kill all the power when needed. Added a SAE whip so I can charge/maintain the battery without having to crawl under the van.

Mac and I were so shocked that neither of us said anything. We just kept on with the day.

I went with aftermarket battery cradles, so I can't get the batteries out through the sides. I should have considered that back then, but I hadn't contemplated what the floor was going to be yet.

    Battery Access Panel

Flooring in place (not nailed yet. Final clear coats coming tomorrow). If you look closely, you can see the 7ļ angled cut on boards 2 through 5.

I removed the lower portion of the groove on board 6, except for about 1/2" next to the cut, to act as a guide. on board 1, I removed the tongue, except for the 1/2".

The 4' floor boards don't run the full length from the front of the bed to the seats. I'll be building a box to house a cooler that will cover that transition and be removable to access the battery.

    The Partition finally takes shape!

It's been years that I've been agonizing over a shape for the partition. I've gone through so much paper in my brief moments of downtime, trying to figure out the right shape to use. On the phone with Mac recently, he says, "Make a circle. Done".

Having never considered a circle, I drew up a template. I liked it more than I thought I would. Sold. I can move on now.

Spent the past day or so making the front and rear skins. Spent last night cutting and installing the bracing.

    Mardi Gras Fun!

Spent all of my Mardi Gras days off, in the garage, as Iíd hoped. Iím neither designer nor carpenter, so the cabinetry conceptualization is taking forever. Yesterdayís output included making the two speaker grilles for the rear 6x9s.
