    Ron Bonomo

I’m very sorry to have to pass this information along. Longtime club member, Ron Bonomo, passed away today. Very few details are available yet, but it appears to be a work related accident. Many of you know Ron personally. He was a huge supporter of our club and a very active vanner, loved by everyone. I’m in shock having to type this. I really don’t know what else to say right now now.

I'm deeply saddened by this news. Thank you, smiley, for letting us know. I'm sending my thoughts and condolences to his family and friends. Please keep us posted as you learn more. We are fragile and have no promise of tomorrow, so get out there and live. All we have is now and each other. God speed, Ron.

What a sad day for the vanning community. I met Ron last summer and he was so friendly and hospitable at Astro’s BBQ, as if we’d been friends for a long time before that day. Oddly enough, I was running errands today, scatterbrained, and Ron popped into my head and I thought how I was looking forward to seeing him next year at the Nats.

I saw this on facebook, just that morning Ron had posted about something wrong with his work truck - with his usual humor. " Not the best way to start a Monday morning".
By afternoon, when I checked facebook, I saw Dave Hufstader's post about him passing.

It can happen to anyone, at any time.

Life is too short to get caught up in online drama, Ron managed to avoid it. I don't think I ever saw him post anything negative.

RIP Ron. The world needs more people like you.

Ron had a kind, gentle soul and he will be missed by many, including myself.

I have visions of John opening the door for him, shaking his hand, and saying "Hey Ron! What the hell are you doing here?". And the vanner party continues....

Thanks, Smiley. I knew I had that picture somewhere but I haven’t learned how to post pics without photobucket. I appreciate it.

    Unhappy Such sad news.

I met Ron for the first time at the 2014 Nats (my first event) and Ron was one of the most friendly and kind people you could ever hope to meet. I know he will be missed by me and everyone who ever had the chance to meet or chat with him. R.I.P. Ron.

Very Sad news, I've know Ron for over 30 years. He was a unique person an could always make you laugh. He was a good friend.

Will miss him dearly. Still can't believe it!

The Vanning community has lost one of the good ones.

    Angry

I will never forget how proud Ron was when he got his 1st gen painted Bleen...
We lost a very good guy.He truly loved his first gen.
I remember talking to him on the cell phone on Monday.Answering a couple questions about the fitment of his new wheels.
Then seeing his Van with them bolted on.He was like a dad with a new kid.Exited, ready to show her off.In Ron's humble way.
It sucks that I have not been to his neck of the woods for a couple of years.
Talking with Ron was all ways a high light of that Van experience...
    We will all miss you.
See you on the other side...

Ron's service will be held tomorrow. Some were trying to get Ron's van ready to display outside, but it seems its wheels and such are off. Not sure it will be there.

    James,
I couldn’t have said it better, the first time I ever met Ron in person, he walked up to me, addressed me by name and started talking to me as if he’d known me forever. I remember looking around and thinking who the heck is this and am supposed to know him? Have I met him before? Well it was Ron. Just because we interacted online only didn’t mean that we were strangers, from the first moment he talked to me it was as if I was a long known friend.

Two quick thoughts, with no intention of hi-jacking a thread, but more to share a positive thought about Ron and the Van community. First, I thought the same thing, Amie, when I pulled up to Astro’s BBQ and met Ron, like “who the hell is this guy who walked up, called me by name and put his arm around me? I mean, I have a bad memory but have I met him before?” That was a fond memory and I’ll have it forever, thanks to his warm welcome. He epitomized the hospitality of the van community.
Second, my wife used to laugh at me when I said “my VCVC friend said this or that...”, because I have only interacted with 98% of this board’s members online. Over these 15yrs since I’ve found this website, we have had the fortune of meeting 6-10 members in person and she finally realized what I had told her all along. They were the quality of person that would make a good friend, and most of them have. We have close connections with a couple of them and I value their friendship immensely. That’s a small nod to Smiley, you, and everyone else who makes this site and club welcoming. I’m not the most social or vocal, but I appreciate the VCVC group is always there when I log on. Looking forward to meeting even more members at the Nats next year.
    ‘Thanks for lending an ear....

I am so sorry and shocked to hear about Rons passing. I also met him at the 2014 nats and he was an instant friend. He was the type of guy that in 2 minutes of talking with him would make you feel like youve been friends since back in the day. Way too soon.

    Strange short meeting with Ron

I picked up my van from a guy in Massachusetts taking I 90 pike home with van on a car dolly every so often I hear a scraping noise??? Pullover on a very tight shoulder/guardrail to check it out, I find the pin that tilts the dolly is gone !!!! ???now I need to find a replacement 1/2 inch extension Bam how to keep it in place vice grips vice grips dragging on the ground strap to tie it up. While I am making the repair, I see a vehicle pull up behind the van and a pair of feet headed towards me OH S#$T JOHNNY LAW!!! No it's Ron !!! On his way home from work . We shake hands I know him from the Vcvc site and I tell him who I am and he knew my name also. I tell him my problem and that I am good to go with my quick fix. Then for both our and the three vehicles safety I tell Ron this is no place to chit chat and talk van's with tractor trailers whizzing by at 65 70 mph and I thank him for stopping to help!!! And I head home wishing I could have spent more time talking to Ron and showing him my new van but safety First !
    RIP Brother Ron Van On
You are and will be sorely missed at VCVC and van events.

    Unhappy

Just received the calendar today, courtesy of my friend John who just joined up, and was saddened to see that Ron had passed. Along with Leadfoot and Wookee, Ron was one of the very first VCVC vanners I met in person. If I went to a vanning event in CT, RI, or MA, Ron was always there. He will be missed.

    Cool

This years Van Nationals is going back to the New England area..
Ron's presence will definitely be missed.
I am shooting to make this the first Van event of this Van Run season I will be able to attend.
I have missed the last couple of Nationals.
Time to get back on track.
Smiley did a great job remembering Ron.In this years calendar...
