    Trim Plate Stamping.

    Hey Gang,

My trim tag was not present when I bought the van. I am going to make up a blank. I have not found anyone to stamp on the data. Hoping someone on the network here would have a lead or recommendation on who could stamp it...

If you get plate made, owner (Or you)can get a set of # puches(I"Think "harbor fright sell them) & they or you could stamp them.
    Just a Idea??
Friend did that when he built trailer. he got vin # from DMV . He stamped it in plate. Now he's legal

Those are reverse letter stamps. Standard punches will "dent" -- hit from the front.
If you want the stock look the punch strikes from the back...raised letter on front.

Looks like your van has a STD too...ouch.

Most of the old printing press are reverse stamp. Maybe found at antique shop?

Make a couple for set-up purposes. Measure on front side and transfer to back side.
If you miss location or goof up..(it has been done)...you will have an extra.
          Make a template...??
Fasten the stamps together(small clamp) and they will look straight and not like a ransom note.

Once that first one is done youre ready to make thousands of them.
          Another awesome project!!

            Interesting topic

So this has me thinking, Do first and second gens share the same type of tag? Are they located in the same places? I’ll look at work to see if we have any reverse stamps! Anyone know what size they are?

STEELSTAMPS.COM sells reversed stamps. they have a 1/4 inch set of 36 number and letter kit for $141.00 and are located in USA. they are just the first place I found on the net. amazon has some offshore sets for cheaper.

                Trim Plate Stamping.

I measured a TRIM plate; the text size is 3/16" (.187).

Just for reference - if I am not wrong, the same size as the VIN plate numbers.

I just got blown away- I found a vendor who does plates (VIN etc.) "one off" he quoted me $200; or $40 just for stamping.

cruzbox - that will be great if your shop has a set.
rarechev - thank-you for the lead - I will check with them if they have a proper set for our trim plate.
Not that I want to go in business but maybe a few of us who want a plate can chip in together

                      No luck at work.

Could not find any stamps at work, but I’ll be happy to take a little break from sanding and machine a tag jig to help out with the stamping. It will be fun to see all the mail miles that it sees, lol!

                        Trim Plate Stamping

                        Thank-you for looking.

Well, I talked with the guy who does all the "stampings". He enlighten me that it is not stamping but embossing.

It sounds as if the reverse stamping will not have the same appearance as the original "raised" text on the TRIM tag.
                        Something to ponder on...
