That is a new one to me Savage, interesting observation and certainly is logical. I have a 66 no door and was missing one strap. Found one on a second gen side door at the junk yard. Far as I know its the same size. My rear doors both open the same amount/angle. Good little trivia question! Does anyone know for sure if they are different lengths or not? Got me curious!

    Cargo door hardware differences???

I have noticed that the cargo door hardware does appear to have some differences. I have a 66 no door and it did not have the interior door handle on the primary cargo door. I got a latch set out of a second gen so I could put an interior handle on it and I found the stud that sticks out for the interior handle to go on/over is shorter than the one on the 66 secondary door. Its too short for properly attaching a 66 style handle (with set screw). Unless someone has a solution seems my next option is to use 67 handles as the way they are made they mount deeper onto the stud and use the clip instead of the set screw. Any one else notice this difference?

Thanks for the clarification Gary. I also think its great that these and many other "little" details get/are documented here on this site as future knowledge/info for those who buy/inherit our vans some day (way off!!) when we can't drive them any more!

For the straps most likely you have seen differences with reason. The original straps were issued with the bracket under P/N 3833695. October '71 GM replaced this part number with P/N 3959858. So there must be some differences. Also not sure, but I think I saw the newer P/N's are black.

    Door starps length

Tom, I think it make sense that there would be different lengths. You might not want to open the back doors so much so they won't get hit when open past the width of the van, but on the side doors you would want them to open almost 180 degrees so they are out of the way if you are parked between cars and need to get in and out of the side doors. Nice collection of straps by the way!

2 pics from 1964 Van advertisement from Chevy a fellow vaner gave me years ago.
Pic show how side doors only open Part way(so they don't hit front door)
2nd pic show back doors open farther(to get Big loads in)
Fine print under add said "Shown with extra cost rear door window and side loading doors"

    Van price info from 1966

That is cool Tom! Thanks for posting it. I purchased an original 1966 dealer brochure for VCVs off EPay. When I got it paper clipped to the brochure was a small piece of paper on dealer stationary showing the options and total price for who ever must have priced/bought the van and kept the brochure together with it. It shows the side doors to be a $54.90 upgrade and glass in the rear doors to be a $12.95 upgrade! Looks like the quote was maybe for Minners TV? Total price before trade was $2415.10 I'll take a dozen please!
