Think maybe the reverse linkage is suspect...

Problem seems to be in the column...reverse cable operates perfectly...

could be you need to adjust the linkage.

Find neutral on the column shifter, there is a hole in each of the shift levers at the bottom of the column. you insert a small phillips screwdriver through all of them to hold it in neutral, and then you can adjust the linkage at the transmission so nothing is binding, so neutral is truly neutral

ok...the 3 levels of shifting on the coulmn...bottom is 1 and 2...middle is 3 and 4 and the top is reverse..the column seems to be sticking causing reverse to stick...when you go to the transmission and push reverse out it will work fine again ...cant see any grease points...its kinda tight in there. We took the floor plate off to get a better look...the 2 rubber bushings look ok...short of spraying the whole column down...any ideas?...can see any adjustment issues...

Mark 108vanguy thanks for emailing me all your thoughts..without you guys(panelmanrd..thanks for the rear door parts!) this van would not be running!! I would love a 4 speed tutorial so I could understand...our shifting now is just too sloppy...I may have to find someone to fix it..but I hate giving up!!! We have corrected many things...funny, its a lifelong Colorado truck that sat for 25 years..but all the systems....350 v8,cooling system, gauges, fan, wipers, lights, came back online with very little work! The gas tank was cleaner than your kitchen sink! Brakes are still soft..I think there is a proper bleeding sequence that I didn't follow...now if that 4-speed would let me fix it...….

On the brake situation.Did you adjust them after the new brake shoes where installed ?

They still need to be adjusted.
Non adjusted worn shoes will cause a low peddle .
Unlike disk brakes. Drum brakes need to be adjusted.

That kinda sounds like master cylinder?
