    my new van

recently picked up my ultimate van , been waiting a long time for this one ,1965 factory 4wd 3 cylinder 2 cycle diesel powered jeep van , could this be my nats van for 2018 ? thinking about selling my 65 super custom handibus daily driver , at this point in my life cant keep em all , time to transition to the jeep m series , devoting time and resources to many projects keeps me spinning my wheels so to speak , terry

I think there down right bitchen cool , Ive always liked vehicles that are a bit off the beaten path so to speak , and the term "rare "gets over used a lot when folks are describing there vehicles , but in this case it is appropriate, there are 10 known to exist of the approx. 60 originally produced for a one year navy contract from mid 1964 to early 65 , and my tastes have always been toward the aerodynamically challenged , early gm vans , forward control jeeps and throw in a dodge l 700 cab over for good measure . lol

I understand how rare this van actually is......
Because it is a Van.Getting into the Van Nationals would not be an issue.
How ever driving this beast there could be.
I guess dropping in a modern engine and setting up the front and rear, axles with a highway user friendly gear ratio is out of the question.
Pretty sure this could be done in such a way that the original drive line could be reinstalled.
I could envision this rare Van with a coat of satin clear right over the faded green paint to preserve its "patina" .
Like our Early Chevys. This old girl will draw attention where ever you take her.
Good luck on your new venture......
Its a "van thing". A life style you have to live to understand!!!!

The gas station my uncle worked at in the 60's had a Jeep FC tow truck... they replaced it in the 70's with a Dodge extended cab tow truck because the Jeep frame had rusted to the breaking point.

It looked just like this one....

wook this van will be trailered wherever it goes , it will run and drive basically on and off the trailer its pretty much a time capsule from the marine corps , it would be tragic to do anything to paint and body , it still has all its original markings and numbers , it also has its original ambulance equipment in the rear , including surgical light , military stretcher and navy stokes litter basket , very unusual and purpose built , and yes it will draw lots of attention , pos and neg both , but it will be fun talking with folks and introducing them to something that has a history , and most likely wont run across another this complete , my very good friend from phoenix drives one with small block 400 and later axles all set up for interstate travel , that particular one was pretty bad shape and headed to the crushers , thankfully he saved it , it is one cool van

                          Wow....

                          "Original ambulance equipment in rear"

That definitely elevates it to survivor/leave it alone coolness. It's a 4wheeled history book
